These lanterns add such a fun pop of color to Thanksgiving decorating, and would be the perfect addition for hanging above the food table when the big day finally arrives. My mom is hosting our family meal this year, but that didn’t stop me from hanging these all over our apartment to get us in the holiday spirit, and I’ve still got plans to make a few more before the season’s over. (Don’t tell my boyfriend. He doesn’t seem to share my enthusiasm for freakishly cute décor.)
You will need orange paper lanterns (I found a package with three different sizes for pretty cheap at Hobby Lobby), newspaper, dark green pipe cleaners, and brown floral tape. You will also need something to hang the lanterns, preferably fishing line so you can’t see the string, and maybe some clear tape, depending on how sticky your floral tape is.
Wrap your cone with floral tape, making sure to wrap it tight enough that it will stay secure when you let go. My tape wasn’t very sticky, but I found that applying some pressure would get it to stick to itself better than it stuck to the actual newspaper. Near the end of the stem, I tore several strips of floral tape and layered them over the top to ensure even coverage.
