Buying gifts for film lovers should be easy. After all, there are a lot of movies out there to purchase, but sometimes (most times) you want to go beyond the DVD/Blu-ray pack or Best Buy gift card. You want to get your movie buff a gift that tells him or her you paid attention. This is easier said than done. Trust me, every year I fight the urge to buy a generic Entertainment Weekly subscription for the movie geek in my family. (This is far more impressive if you know that I am the movie geek in my family. Self-control.) To help you in your quest for impressive, unusual, fun presents, we’ve made a list of 7 gifts that will put a movie star smile on your film lover’s face.
Despicable Me Shoes $65.00, Etsy
These hand painted treasures are adorable. Who doesn’t love the minions? No one. The artist describes them best when she says, “You can’t have a bad day with these little guys looking up at you!” Sounds like a great gift.
Ryan Gosling Earrings $14.00, Etsy
Can we just take a minute and appreciate how hilariously great these are? These will make all other ears jealous. If you’re not a Ryan Gosling fan (hi, aliens!), they have Betty White ones, too. I’m not kidding.
Star Wars Onesies $65.00, Red5
Take the comfort of onesie pajamas and add the essence of a Star Wars Fanboy, and you get these gems. I personally have my eye on the Darth Vader onesie, but that’s because I don’t “underestimate the power of the dark side.”
Bridget Jones Pencils $12.00, Etsy
There’s a little bit of Bridget Jones in all of us. These pencils are a super cute stocking stuffer, and they are sure to make your film buff smile every time she uses them. My favorite is the one that says, “I’ll go home and… de-bunny.”
Harry Potter TV Wand $90.00, Think Geek
This is one of the most amazing things nerds have ever made. I am so excited about it. This wand actually programs up to 13 different motions to control your television. Mind explosion! Be aware, if you purchase this for your film lover, they will want a Harry Potter marathon (at least that’s where I’m headed).
Bill Murray Mug $15.00, Society 6
Who says a mug has to be a boring gift? This really neat cup features illustrations of Bill Murray in his most famous roles. It has Murray as a Ghostbuster, Steve Zissou, Scrooge, Ernie McCracken in Kingpin, etc. It’s great. It’s so great.
Dirty Dancing Necklace $48.00, Etsy
I’m always a bit skeptical about movie-themed jewelry, but this necklace is quite tasteful. Plus, it has a great quote for Swayze fans and feminists to proudly display around our necks. I like it, and I bet any Dirty Dancing enthusiast would, too.
Hilary Miller is currently an MFA student in Screenwriting at Pepperdine University in Malibu, CA. When not not watching, writing, or talking about movies and television shows, she can usually be found making crock-pot creations, laughing, talking too loud, running, devouring a good book, eating, racking up cellular bills chatting with her bomb family, sticking her toes in the sand, or wishing she were Hermione Granger, sometimes all at once. And while part of her heart is still in Indiana, the rest of it belongs to her puppy, Estelle Getty.
