Yes, Pretty Little Liars is back tonight, but more importantly (at least to me) its spin-off Ravenswood is back, too. Now, I’ve never seen a single episode of PLL (please don’t kill me) so I can’t really judge levels of greatness here but after a two day binge watch of Ravenswood I am beyond hooked. It has just the right amount of creepy mystery, a gorgeous cast (the leading man of which is often conveniently sans shirt) and smart writing to keep you on the edge of your seat. More than anything, though, Ravenswood leaves you with a TON of questions, some of which I hope we’ll get closer to finding the answers to this season. Here are the eight plot points I NEED to know more about.
Why Does Remy Sleepwalk? — Of all the weird things going on in Ravenswood, I am particularly intrigued by Remy’s sleepwalking. Sure, sleepwalking in itself is pretty weird, but what makes Remy’s especially interesting is that it now seems to lead her to important discoveries in the mystery of the Five Pact. While Caleb and Miranda’s dreams bring more questions than answers (Who are the mysterious figures that are trying to kill them? Who is the boy with the bloody eyes that keeps popping up in Caleb’s visions? Are those really Miranda’s parents or figments of her imagination?) Remy’s last bout of sleepwalking brought our fab four into the basement of the coffee shop, where they discovered the bodies of a couple who sacrificed themselves in the hopes of resurrecting original Caleb and Miranda… which we can now be pretty sure is exactly what happened. Major plot development, am I right? So, why is Remy the one receiving these helpful night time strolls? Is it somehow connected with her mother being the soldier saved through the pact? Or just a side effect of her own mortality?
What the HECK is up with Olivia’s boyfriend, Dillon? — Okay, so the biggest shocker of the entire first five episodes for me was when Olivia’s boyfriend, Dillon, was revealed to be in cahoots with Max, the little girl in the red coat. Whaaaaat. So, what’s his deal? Did he become evil after meeting Olivia, or was he always evil and sent by Max to infiltrate Olivia’s life because they knew she would be connected to the curse? Was it Dillon who killed Olivia and Luke’s father?
What’s the Deal with Miranda and Caleb’s Family Histories? — So we know that both Caleb and Miranda grew up being shuffled from orphanage to foster home and that both Caleb’s and Miranda’s uncles know about the curse. Did their families give them up because of the curse, hoping to protect them? Is is the curse that killed Miranda’s parents (and, I assume, Caleb’s mom, though I don’t know whether she is alive or not… we do know that Caleb’s father is alive, however.) Does Caleb’s dad know about the curse? Does he know that Caleb is the resurrected version of original Caleb? Are the shadowy figures that are trying to kill them part of their families? I NEED ANSWERS.
What Kind of Relationship Do Mr. Collins and Mrs. Matheson REALLY Have? — So, we already know that Mr. Collins and Mrs. Matheson are old school friends who still seem pretty chummy. I’m totally unconvinced that either Mr. Collins (or Mrs. Matheson for that matter) killed Mayor Matheson but we also know that there was some serious animosity between the two… but why? Does it have to do with Mr. Collins and Mayor Matheson knowing about the curse? Were Mr. Collins and Mrs. Matheson having an affair?
Who is Max, a.k.a Red Coat Girl? — So, the super creepy little girl Max lived in the big old house where she was keeping Miranda hostage. Who is she? Why was she trying to hide Miranda? What did she see underneath the bed? Why did she bring Dillon into her plans and schemes? Why does she hang out with all those ravens? What is it about little kids that can be so bone-chillingly horrifying? You don’t have to answer that last one.
Why Does Mrs. Grunswald Know So Damn Much? — Not only does Mrs. Grunswald know everything there is to know about the Ravenswood curse and everything that’s going on with Caleb, Miranda and their friends now (even, it seems, the secret stuff she wasn’t even around for) but I’ve also been told she also knows everything there is to know about Ali and the Pretty Little Liars girls. Is she some kind of keeper of secrets in all Insert-word-here-Wood towns in Pennsylvania? Or does what’s happening in Rosewood also somehow have to do with the Ravenswood curse? Was one of her ancestors also taken by the curse? How did she become a confidant to Mr. Collins? So many questions, so few answers.
Why is Benjamin Price so Involved With Luke? — I might be reading too much into this one but with Miranda dead, Caleb having visions/being chased by ghostly figures, Olivia being visited by the ghost of her father’s high school girlfriend/having an evil boyfriend and Remy sleepwalking/dealing with a PTSD mother, there hasn’t been much supernatural action for Luke. Sure, he’s part of the curse, but he was also the last of group to even believe that anything supernatural was going on and no one has targeted him directly. Yes, Mr. Price could just be taking a special interest in Luke as part of his teacherly duties, but in a show like Ravenswood, no character is introduced merely for background interest. I think something’s up with this one.
What About a PLL/Ravenswood Mash-Up? — Like I said above, I’ve never seen a single episode of Pretty Little Liars. Strictly speaking, it’s not necessary to watch PLL to enjoy Ravenswood, but the stories do obviously overlap. We’ve already seen Caleb struggling through his predestined feelings for Miranda with his love for his girlfriend Hanna back in Rosewood and he has already promised Hanna he’d be home twice within the first five episodes — if she didn’t make a surprise visit to Ravenswood to see what was up with him at some point, I’d be incredibly surprised. That’s not even taking into account the fact that Caleb has been lying to Hanna about Miranda’s death and why he’s still in Ravenswood to begin with. Add to that the fact that the PLL girls have a connection to Ravenswood through Mr. Grunswald and the A-Team lair and the mash-up episode seems inevitable. Season finale anyone?
What mysteries are you hoping to see solved this season on Ravenswood? It returns tonight at 9/8c on ABC Family!
