If you watched this week’s Scandal then you probably have mixed emotions about its main characters. Many characters are confronting conflicts with each other, and many of the conflicts stems from Olivia and Fitz’s terrible decisions. Twitter of course was blowing up during the episode, but there was noticeably a lot less people cheering for the show’s main couple. This leaves one question—can Olivia and Fitz keep Scandal fans’ support? If not, then how will this show work?
Olivia was attacked on all fronts in this episode for good reason. Huck finally told her that she was wrong for ruining Quinn’s life then making him responsible for her even though he is a fragile person himself. Mellie quickly stops Olivia from comparing her situation with Fitz’s new running mate, Andrew Nichols because she never slept with him because she is married. Quinn also takes a shot at Olivia by threatening to literally shoot her. If Harrison wasn’t so busy with that British woman then he would also probably have something to say to Olivia, but that didn’t happen.
Fitz on the other hand has only been getting humbled by Olivia herself. When he says he has a “fox in his hen house” she immediately tells him how that phrase is disgustingly sexist. When he asks later in the episode if she is actually into Jake she says it’s not any of his business which is confusing. Are these guys off or on?When Mellie talks to Fitz and tries to help him he immediately strikes her down and gets territorial over Olivia. Since the audience knows that Mellie was raped by his father and that’s the reason she has closed herself off physically from him it’s hard to see Fitz in a good light in this scene. He appears cold, his adultery becomes much more unacceptable, and that’s what made a lot of people take to Twitter to talk about their disgust about it.
Some believe Fitz should have just figured out Mellie’s rape, others think it’s unfair that he rubs his feelings for Olivia in his face. It strikes up a good question and that is can Olivia and Fitz go on like this any longer? If they do end up turning out to be more like psychopaths will the show still work? After all House of Cards features a great couple that uses sex, murder, and other people’s pain in their political favor and has fans cheering for them. Or will their love affair just continue on and fans will either stop watching, or start cheering for Mellie?
What do you think Lydia fans?
