Scandal brought the drama of not only the White House’s mistress dilemma, but the reason for the bad blood between Olivia and her father. I am really enjoying this storyline of Olivia’s past. We see that she is relatable for her daddy issues, and we see where her great ties with Huck came from. I know that homeless Huck looks somewhat like Hagrid from Harry Potter, but I really want to give him a hug and a cheeseburger.
Back to the whole Jeannine and President Grant lie. Olivia’s father, Eli is all about going with the story that Jeannine was the one having the affair with the president instead of Olivia. This of course crushes lover boy’s dreams of dumping his conniving first lady for his mistress, but we have learned that presidents don’t always get what they want. Olivia declares a media war on the White House by representing Jeannine and defending her innocence, all with the approval of lover boy.
We still have no clue where Jake Ballard is, but he becomes a bargaining chip in this whole mess. Olivia’s father says that he will give up Jake in exchange for Jeannine admitting to getting down and dirty with the president. In order to sweeten the deal Mellie offers Jeannine $2 million to lie. Hey that’s not half bad! Of course Jeannine is swayed, and Olivia smells her doubt. She then tells Jeannine that she will hate herself if she lies.
I think it’s safe to say that the president is a bit of a masochist because he takes Olivia’s verbal lashings like no one’s business! On the phone Fitz tells Olivia that B613 won’t bend to him even though he is the president. She says that the whole point of them sneaking around is so he keeps the presidency and has power to handle things like this so handle it! Fitz then hijacks Jeannine’s television statement to say that he had an affair with Jeannine to make sure Ballard is returned safely. Point for the man with presidential balls!
I think one of the greatest scenes in this episode was the dinner scene between Olivia and her father where she asks him flat out what he does for a living. His refusal to answer was terrifying, and honestly familiar to anyone who has parents that believe that parents don’t have to answer their kids’ questions. I felt bad for Edison, who Olivia refused to say yes to his proposal until her fallout with her father. She believed his position will be helpful to take her father down. We find out that the engagement ended because Eli put Edison in a terrible accident, and he kidnapped Huck and returned him with a black eye.
In the end Huck finds out that Olivia’s father is involved with B613 and flips out on Olivia by man handling her. It’s truly sad to see him slump away after being lied to for so long. Ballard is given back in the same fashion Eli gives all her men back…beaten up.
So what are you most excited for in the next episode Scandalous fans? For me it will be to see how Huck and Olivia will reconcile, and how Huck will try to kill Olivia’s father…because this needs to happen!
