Mindy encounters a skater boy man-child on this week’s episode, ‘Sk8r Man’ and of course absurdity ensues. This was definitely one of the funnier episodes all thanks to Timothy Olyphant’s insane character, Graham.
After Mindy gets stuck at the couple’s table at her friends’ dinner party for being too picky when they previously tried to set her up, Mindy threw out all her standards by going on a date with a grungy skater guy named Graham. They go to get garbage burritos together and Mindy finds out that Graham doesn’t believe in getting health insurance, he has a pregnant mermaid tattoo and other unattractive qualities. She is about to call it quits until she drops her phone on the train tracks and Graham jumps in to rescue her selfies. They then have a kiss that maybe the most passionate kiss on the show so far.
Now there is nothing wrong with opening her options. If you read my previous recaps of the series you know that I have been dying for Mindy to date more different men, but Mindy of course makes a point by dating down. Danny of course has to show her that Graham is a loser by going on a double date with them. He ends up taking SNL’s go to girl for Miley Cyrus parodies as his date. Her character on both shows just happens to be a bore.
I don’t know why Mindy and Danny always seem to have something to prove to each other about their love lives, but they do. They have a very odd conversation that ends up with Graham leading everyone to run out on the check because that is what man-children do! They don’t make it very far because Mindy can’t squeeze her way through a locked gate. She ends up dumping Graham right there in front of everyone which is the shortest fling Mindy has had in a while. Danny also gets dumped by the boring girl for not having enough personality ironically.
I guess the cutest part is that Mindy and Danny end up back together in the restaurant. The check was weighing heavily on Danny’s conscious, and Mindy looks like she wants to finish off Graham’s plate. I guess this is the part that we are supposed to imagine them on a date together, but at this point I can’t. I really just want Mindy to pull away from Danny for a while and just hang out with the girls to get over Casey. It doesn’t look she is getting anywhere with Danny’s help. Maybe I’m a little bit biased. In my opinion the best episode of the series so far is the night club episode which included Betsy (whoever decided to sideline her adorable character made a big mistake).
Anyways Jeremy dealt with his daddy issues this week along with his weight gain. Did anyone else notice that Jeremy is still fat? They pointed it out in the first episode, but never mentioned it again. Unlike Mindy who has to have a fat joke every episode, it is of course ignored when a man puts on a few pounds until writers wants to joke about it because it actually has to do with the plot. Oh if only Mindy could get the same treatment. Anyways Peter gets chummy with Jeremy’s dad and he gets jealous. In the end Peter assures Jeremy that he is indeed awesome.
My only wish about Jeremy’s character is that we find out why exactly he has put on the pounds. He seems like he has taken on the leader role in the practice so maybe it has to do with the stress of that. Did you notice we went through a whole episode without any celebrities playing themselves this week? I wonder how long that will last.
So Lydia readers, do you think Mindy should have broken up with Graham?
